Jon Daniel Franklin is an Pulitzer Prize-winning American author. He was born on January 13, 1943 in Enid, Oklahoma.[1] He won the first Pulitzer Prizes for Feature Writing in 1979 and for Explanatory Journalism in 1985, both for his work as a science writer with the Baltimore Evening Sun.[2] Franklin holds a B.S. in Journalism from the University of Maryland.[3] Franklin taught creative writing the University of Oregon, was the head of the Science Journalism department at Oregon State University, and a Journalism professor at his alma mater, the University of Maryland.[4] He received honorary degrees from the University of Maryland in 1981, and the College of Notre Dame in 1982.[2]
